The Sand is Devoured by the Sea & The Sun Enjoys the Scene...
Me back from a... err... let's see.. hmmm... 6 days (??) holiday in Phuket, Thailand.
FINALLY. outta the whole year, i get my break. well-deserved at that. of course, there's always something at home to ruin your holiday mood. tomorrow i gotta go for my re-re-test for economics... but i'm not gonna drone on that for now.
It was a great place to get away. haha.. even got away with a not-so-bad tan myself... the sea and weather was perfect. total bliss. of course, me being already tan-skinned in colour, lots of the local peeps mistook my mom and i for one of them and we had to constantly tell them apologetically "Sorry, I'm not Thai." It did get to us at some point or another, and i almost felt like makin' a huge canvas sign to hang on my chest declarin' "I'm a tourist, not a Thai." but i guess i had to deal with it. i got many weird glances, few friendly... most (almost) pervertic. i'm not braggin' but i think my looks appealed to them in the way that they would look out for a potential girl to chat up.
Few were genuinely nice... most were just askin' "Where you from?" or "Hello, beautiful." there was one person, though, that caught my attention. and is still on my mind till today. he was a shopkeeper. no, not an old man who's waiting for his last breath. he looked considerably young-ish. about 27 max.
*(please don't judge me for my taste in men, it wasn't his looks that caught my eye)
i was walking with the family, down the row of shophouses and stalls that night. and from the corner of my eye i noticed someone (or at least a figure), trying to get a better look at something. so i thought of just turning to my right to see (for curiousity's sake) or i thought, maybe, it was me who was blocking that person. so i turned and my eyes met this shopkeeper, who then gave me an expression that was surprising, yet at the same time... i dunno... cute (??). like you know when something or someone catches your eyes and you go, like "WHOA...." that was his reaction exactly. then i just quickly turned away and went into the next shop beside his. from inside, i noticed that he was standing outside and peeping in, trying to get a better view of me. then i just walked out and continued down the street.
After dinner, we had to walk back to the hotel and that, of course meant, that we had to pass by his shop again... and like i would've expected it, he was standing outside his shop and caught my eye. he was practically grinning (not in a dumb, idiotic way... more like a sincere, heartwarming way... get me??) and i smiled back. then he stood by the side and watched me and my family walk pass, still smiling at me. and trying a simple "hello". he acted in such an adorable way, that totally contrasted to another shopkeeper further down. this 2nd guy was openly trying to get fresh with me, like "Where you from?".. so i replied "S'pore"... then he stuck out his hand and offered a handshake. i returned his handshake. whilst still shaking, he continued to ask "What's your name?".... my instant reaction? i immediately withdrew my hand and told him " Oh... you're not getting that, buddy." and simply walked out of his shop.
the next day, my mom, sis and me went to do a lil' last minute shopping before we had to fly off... so we had to pass that adorable guy's shop (i'd prefer to call him my "Phuket Crush"). luckily he was there. at first he didn't recognise me, coz' i was wearing an orange Nike cap and bermudas... much more casual then what i wore the night before. but it didn't take long for him to remember my face and then his face instantly lit up. so did mine. we smiled (as always). then we had to pass by hiss shop a 2nd time again, because my sis wanted to go back and look for something. and this time i purposely lagged a little behind my mom and sis, so that i could have a lil' "private" view of him. he was still there and he just grinned and grinned.
while typing all this out, i know it sounds dumb, immature and totally stupid. but if you were me, or have been through somewhat the same kinda thing before during your hols or along the streets while you're shopping, you'll know what i mean. i know this guy's a stranger from a foreign land. but that's what makes it all the more mysterious. and intriguing about it. at least nothing happened between the 2 of us, so there's nothing to over-react about. is there?
i haven't really spoken to my bf since i left. and not missing him from the 3rd night onwards made me feel so free again, that i really didn't want to come back to S'pore. and now, i don't even know what to say when i see him again. i just miss my friends, not him really. it's always like this; i go into this temporary state of depression whenever i get back from a holiday. because reality hits you so hard and you know this the shit you gotta put up with for the next year at least.
I think living near the beach is a blessing. and if it's somewhere like Phuket... it's near heaven. beacuse you get to experience God's powers through your eyes.
