reality check

this is the healthiest and most active i've been in... YEARS.

i haven't lost any weight (-_-) at all, but it feels awesome to get my ass moving again.
but i've already psyched myself to be realistic here.

i'm not and never will be the slim & slender girl.
so as long as i keep up this routine, and don't suffer from some random fat-related disease, it's all good. :)

in fact, i can feel myself shrink bit by bit.

i guess i just love my food too much, which explains why the weight's not really shifting much. LOL. but like i said, i'm good. :)

the true definition of 'trauma'

so shoot me for sounding/coming off as a smart-aleck who just learned something new and wants to show off this newly-found knowledge.

i reckon it's more a revelation of recent events, rather than the fresh acquisition of intellect.

we all know we can call a event 'traumatic' and say that someone has gone through some form of 'trauma'. but when we ask that person to actually verbalise his/her emotions or thoughts on this supposedly 'traumatic' experience, not many can do so with fluent grammatically synced sentences.

this is because the trauma is not the event itself at all.
it's the repercussions, the aftermath of it.

the trauma is the inability to voice out the fear, anxiety and pain that came from the event.
trauma is beyond describable; beyond words.

real trauma is a tumultous ocean within one's self that cannot be eased nor pacified with words of comfort.

and now it all makes sense to me - why - after all these years, as much as i replay that 'traumatic' event in my head over and or again, nothing i say can even begin to recapture the horror of it all.

a week of respite

my life may not be as stressful as say, last year, but it sure feels damn good to have a break from stuff at home. i have to thank my girlfriend for asking me to look after her place till friday because she's away in hong kong.

most importantly, it's great to know she trusts me enough to hand me the keys to her place. hee. :D but also, it's a great excuse for me to have access to her gym & pool, oh, and her cat. :)

i have the whole apartment to myself for 5 days, and it sure beats rotting at home, or just wasting time away outside. i love her place because it's cosy, and having her cat, yoda, for company ain't all that bad. heh.

watchmen

from the trailer, to the engaging discussion of the original plot in the comic book series with an endearing staff member at one of my favourite shops, this movie looked to be promising. plus, considering it took 2 decades to finally hit the big screen.

one thing for sure, it's not your typical superhero movie where there is a rather obvious villain, and the whole storyline flows up to the point where the villain is defeated with much justice. this is indeed very complex work, and i truly admire the director's guts in wanting to even attempt to translate the comic to screen.

these superheroes are not perfect, for one. they bring along their own insecurities, secret pasts and hidden agendas. think of spider-man when he had to balance his obligation to uphold the law as a masked hero with his dire want for a normal life with his sweetheart mary jane. only, in 'watchmen', the issues dealt with, are not as... shallow?

it's poetry in motion during the scenes that depict violence and gore - it almost makes death by murder, beautiful and poignant. cinematography is excellent, with the direction of characters and the scene changes done quite artistically. the use of flashbacks and narration is key, which treats the audience not only as third party observers, but brings them into the superheroes' psyche and gives them a chance to understand their motives. this is bringing into consideration that none of the actors/actresses casted are "big" names in hollywood. yet. they did an applaudable job of depicting real characters with raw emotion.

plot-wise, it is definitely not an easily-digestable one. the beginning trods along, and honestly, the movie only picks up after an hour or so (admittedly, i fell asleep during the first 15-20 minutes!). so, do be prepared for plenty of dialogue and story-telling at first. once the movie moves along, one can see why the start had to be a little bit of a drag, and the appreciation of the movie will naturally come together in the end.

as with any good movie, there are plenty of plot twists and a surprise ending. overall, this movie gives not only a spectacular adaptation of print to screen, but it's really a work of art. from characterisation, to plot twists and cinematography, this film is intense, complex and a sheer spectacle.
