The signal is subtle
We pass just close enough to touch
No questions, no answers
We know by now to say enough
With only simple words
With only subtle turns
The things we feel alone for one another
There is a secret that we keep
I won't sleep if you won't sleep
Because tonight may be the last chance we'll be given
We are compelled to do what we must do
We are compelled to do what we have been forbidden
So I won't sleep if you won't sleep tonight

"common courtesy" is one of the most understated phrases
Common Courtesy. everyone says it. but how many ACTUALLY practise it? just look at drivers. public; random people along the sidewalks, shopping malls, parks. simple things like saying "excuse me" when you want the person to make way for you, or "sorry" when you accidently bump into someone, or even helping the lady/man to pick up a ten-cent coin that happened to fall at your feet - no need for words. just simple gestures.
but being the egoist that we ALL are - men and women alike - we have our "pride" and "dignity" to save. or some would even go as far to say, our "right" to not want to be courteous. the reason why this suddenly popped into my mind, is because i just went to NTUC with my mom for grocery shopping. and we all know that there's always some sort of stock-taking or re-stocking happening along every other aisle. trolleys filled with cartons and boxes of who-knows-what are parked along the aisle, while more smaller boxes and cartons are scattered along the aisle floor. then *DENG, DENG*. there you are with your full trolley of groceries, but no space to move. so of course, you expect them to make way for you, or you ask politely. YOU ARE THEIR CUSTOMER. but instead, they grunt, give you a sick look and mumble under their breath while kicking away their stock. so you don't want to make a scene, and just struggle to pass through without causing an avalanche of food products rain down on you.
WTF? and this carries on in almost every aisle you pass through. the big irony is that, at the check-out counter, there is an article praising NTUC for their efforts in rounding down the prices of their products, after the obsolete one-cent coin; and the article's heading goes: "Customer's convenience is of high importance to us." BLEEEKKK!!! CONVENIENCE? u telling me about CONVENIENCE?! you can't even get through one bloody aisle without having to get pissed off with the staff first. and what's worse, even other shoppers just leave their trolleys at the weirdest of corners, and block the whole FREAKIN' PASSAGE!
what i suggest is, supermarkets should make bigger aisles if they intend to let their staff stock up while there are shoppers around. it really spoils the look and the ambience of the place (if they ever had ambience to start with :-P) when it looks more like a warehouse. i'm not saying decorate the place or put on soothing classical music (though of course, don't even get me STARTED about the music... -_-), but at least clean it up a bit, and make it look like some place where people go to buy stuff. FOOD. and make the food ACCESSIBLE.
it's a sad, sad place. Tuesday, January 25, 2005
hmm... what was i supposed to write in here again?
i actually forgot. i knew i wanted to write about something kind of interesting in this entry, but then i FORGOT. oh well, that's the ever imperfect me.
one thing that i DO remember is, though, that i think i slightly busted my knee. well, my mom drags me out of bed at about 7 a.m 3 times a week to follow her up, into, around (you name it, whatever) Bukit Timah Hill. we try out all the different routes, short-cuts, long-cuts and loops. half brisk walking, half jogging. plus, there are plenty of REALLY steep stairs that you got to climb... there's one that's worth 150+ steps. so i think my knee's not used to the "torture" and now it's cramped up. i'm supposed to follow her tomorrow, but i'm skipping. it hurts man.
i STILL have NO CLUE what i was supposed to write in here. grrr... makes me a little pissed. i think i have to sleep on it, or at least give me a day or two to regain my memory. in the mean time, i'll just leave. ^_^
should i wait? or just move on, like i did before? Friday, January 21, 2005
Selamat Hari Raya Haji
well, to those who don't celebrate this day, have a good public holiday! i know singaporeans go crazy over public holidays, especially if they are placed so close to the weekends.
i had a kenduri (like a family gathering, with lots of people, good food and [for me] FUN with my cousins!) at my uncle's place last night. it was great, though one of my cousins, Adam, wasn't there, but i'm sure we had LOTS of downright crappy fun fooling around with each other's MSN friends didn't we, abang Nasser? *wink, wink* haha, now you know the REAL Suzanna, not as reserved and straighforward like you thought she was. last night she revealed the naked truth, that is her crazy antics and what retarded stuff she has on her mind... wahaha. thanks for another unforgettable occassion at a family gathering. ;-D
well, it looks like the weather is just about heating up. monsoon season is passing over us soon enough, and the days are definitely going to be a whole lot hotter. (hey, don't i sound like a weather girl? heehee ^_^). having said that, it puts me in the mood to go to the beach or something... been quite some time since we went to East Coast. hmm...
i'm feeling much more hopeful than i've been in days. wonder why... *PONDERING* Wednesday, January 19, 2005

Let me love you That's all you need baby
i'm so sorry people. boredom does this to me... i start to get sappy, crappy and downright nonsensical. even my blogging doesn't escape my insanity. the radio is my friend 24/7 now and i'm just in love with this song. can't help but groove to this every single time i hear it. SIGH. i'm getting seriously PATHETIC.
why do some people turn away unconditional love, especially when it's staring right smack in front of their faces? Tuesday, January 18, 2005
feeling sentimental
Girls Aloud - I'll Stand By You
Oh, Why You Look So Sad? Tears are in your eyes Come on and come to me now Don’t be ashamed to cry Let me see you through ’cause I’ve seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you You don’t know what to do Nothing you confess Could make me love you less
I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you
So if you’re mad, get mad Don’t hold it all inside Come on and talk to me now Hey, what you got to hide? I get angry too Well I’m a lot like you
When you’re standing at the crossroads And don’t know which path to choose Let me come along ’cause even if you’re wrong
I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you Take me in, into your darkest hour And I’ll never desert you I’ll stand by you
And when...When the night falls on you, baby You’re feeling all alone You won’t be on your own
I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you Take me in, into your darkest hour And I’ll never desert you I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you
i know this isn't the original artiste, but they do a fantastic cover of it, which manages to still capture the essence of the song. that you'll always be there for someone. always. it's not too sappy a rendition, and not too "pop-ish". nice.
went for a job interview yesterday. sales assistant for a company specialising in gifts and stationery. $1000 (basic) + commission. pretty nice start. but the hours are totally ugh. 9a.m.-6p.m. 6-day work week. i was supposed to go for on-job training today, but i had to call them up to tell them i reject the offer. i intend to take my driving lessons, you see, so technically... this job takes up too much time. oh well, back to flipping through the CLASSIFIEDS. man, the money is so attractive to me right now. i almost don't mind the long gruelling hours (heh, i can say that now, but i bet i'll be regretting it after one week of work).
kudos to the LIONS. it was a far better performance that i thought it would be. definitely gave the Indonesians some run for their sweaty socks. :-P (whatever that means; i just like how that phrase sounds)
anyways, i'm still slacking around for now. but somehow i'm taking it well... hopefully i get a job real soon. i feel hopeful, somehow. i don't know, a gut feeling tells me so. but don't rejoice too soon - things have a way of turning black. more often than we know it. Monday, January 10, 2005
after all this time...
it's not that i've never felt this much appreciation or realise the sheer value of some things (or in this case PEOPLE) in Life before. having "all the time in the world" now, i have managed to reflect on ALOT of things. of course, as i have mentioned, one of them is my relationships with people. and reflecting on this, i've realised that after every crappy relationship with a guy, regardless of how shitty it is post-relationship, i have a group of people who's been there for me. My close friends. i may be heartbroken, hurt and totally screwed up, but they always help soothe the pain... slowly, but reassuringly. and after all this time, i realise finally, that i'm never alone.
physically yes, maybe. but i just have to reach out, and they'll be there.
to them i have only this to say: thank you guys, a million. even that, is not enough. i can't imagine my life knowing that you guys aren't around. for all the jubilations and fucking crap we've been through, we've grown. grown up as people, and also as friends. i Love you guys.
and, to my best friend, Zakiah: you've been there for me, even when i have disappointed you tremendously. there have been times, more than once, when we've been in situations that really test the strength and trust we both share. and guess what? we've made it this far. thanks for EVERYTHING. i can only thank God for letting you into my life.
on a more personal note, i'm just gritting my teeth. pulling through this frustrating time. but i know i can do this. i just HAVE TO. Thursday, January 06, 2005
it's so easy to take things for granted we always say, "Never take things for granted".. but do we always listen to our own advice? NO. it's human nature. but at the same time, it's a big human flaw. right now, i'm feeling the consequence of that "innate" quality of humans. i use to find school a drag, i thought the post A-Levels life would be more.... relaxing and easy-going. it's total crap. i can't find a part-time job i think i'm competent in (or they refuse to get back to me), i put up with my naggy, high-strung mom EVERY FUCKING DAY, and i feel uber, super-duper lonely.
can it get any worse?
i'm desperate. for what?... maybe a job, maybe some "alone time"; but i think most of all, someone to talk to, a companion. sure, talking to Tigger is nice... but his innocent mind wouldn't understand any pain we humans inflict on ourselves. what makes me feel even more crappier about myself is that i feel like my sister has managed to accomplish things i will never be able to in my life time. i mean look at her: she's won medals for ice-skating competitions, gotten a higher aggregate for her PSLE than me, and MANAGED to get into St. Margaret's by appeal. (that, not including the fact she's freaking skinny and tall)
compared to me... by the time i entered Secondary 1, i was a total bum... gained weight and my best talent was talking nonsense and getting in trouble with my mom for petty things. financially, my parents invested alot of $$ into my sister's ice-skating... we're talking an accumulation of thousands. i don't recall my parents ever considering putting that much of funds into something i was ever passionate about. like my poetry. even now, my passion's dead.
and how hypocritical was my dad, when one minute he said my idea of wanting to pursue Psychology at University (if i get in , that is) was supported. and at the next minute, he laughed... no wait! MOCKED!! at the idea in front of my Literature teacher during the Meet-the-Parents session. i have never been so humiliated and embarrassed in my life; by my own FAMILY. i wanted to cry, but i could only look down, turn red and wished the floor would swallow me there and then.
during this very mundane period of my life, i have managed to reflect on many things. and one of them is my relationships with people. friends. past boyfriends. but primarily, my family members. i see where i stand in the family, and even though it doesn't look good from where i'm standing, i'm not about to try and make myself be heard. it's too frustrating. too energy-sapping. it's been too long overdue. after everything that i've ever prioritised for my parents, or for the family as a whole, it never goes acknowledged. so why bother?
i don't ask for much, i never have. even money-wise, i save up for YEARS to get myself something nice. why can't i be treated like an adult with equal opportunities?
God. Why am i even here? Tuesday, January 04, 2005
