The signal is subtle
We pass just close enough to touch
No questions, no answers
We know by now to say enough
With only simple words
With only subtle turns
The things we feel alone for one another
There is a secret that we keep
I won't sleep if you won't sleep
Because tonight may be the last chance we'll be given
We are compelled to do what we must do
We are compelled to do what we have been forbidden
So I won't sleep if you won't sleep tonight

suddenly, so grateful, so thankful
no, i'm not grateful over the economics test earlier today, nor how my life this few months ahead are going to be like.
it's something more simple than that. remember the bintan trip i had during the june hols? well, also recall that i mentioned "Sweet Smiler"? and that i wrote him a letter, and i'm just waiting for his reply. hmm.. let's just say, i'm not waiting anymore. i didn't get anything yet, and i'm not going to keep my hopes up anymore. i just have to be thankful enough that i got to encounter such an experience in my life.
this sounds so philosophical, and mushy. downright crappy, in easier words. but i beg to differ. ever had a time in your life that you just got to meet an individual for a short period of time, be it months or days, and then they're gone? but they still manage to linger on your mind, and somehow you miss their presence - even though you know you're not close to that person?
it's something like that (for those of you who still don't know what that feels like; don't worry, you will, in some later part of your life). i guess it's easier for me to use "Sweet Smiler's" real name now, since he's not going to be mentioned here again ( i think). well, his name's Avief. it's longer than that actually, but don't bother with that.
what can i say about him that's not to be thankful about? he's a simple guy, sweet, sincere and down-to-earth. no complicated preferences or philosophising. i'm glad i got to meet him, even if it's just a week in my entire life. he's been on my mind these few days, past week actually, God knows why.
then there was this other guy, Benni. i didn't mention him earlier because i didn't think it was really necessary. but come to think of it, he really looked out for me at the resort. he's 25 years old too, and he was like a big brother to me. he's in charge of sea sports, so yea, he was pretty buff and definitely tan... decent looking. very gentlemanly and charming. he made sure i felt safe when i was sailing, when i was on-stage about to embarrass myself, and gave me the assurance that there will be great things in my life, in time to come. it was bittersweet to part with him - he went through pretty rough times as a kid. of course, excluding the part where he was paid just for wearing Billabong on the streets. he got spotted at a surfing competition at 14. but he persevered through a close friend's death - asphyxiated by the waves in a competition - at around the same age. and he rebelled against his dad, just to get where his is today. he's worked in hawaii.. wow. jealous...
hmm... i guess the bottomline is "Thank you so much for making my life a little more brighter, even though we'll never meet again. You showed me that there are still people out there - strangers - who are genuinely nice and have a heart. I'll never forget the smiles, laughs and memories."
Above all, i thank God who handles Fate in such a way, that small incidents make big impacts on our little tender hearts.
