The signal is subtle
We pass just close enough to touch
No questions, no answers
We know by now to say enough
With only simple words
With only subtle turns
The things we feel alone for one another
There is a secret that we keep
I won't sleep if you won't sleep
Because tonight may be the last chance we'll be given
We are compelled to do what we must do
We are compelled to do what we have been forbidden
So I won't sleep if you won't sleep tonight

lost romance
in this day and age, love is hard to find (well, it seems).
lust, infatuation, puppy love and crush. one thing they all have in common? they are highly likely, a phase, and a passing hype.
i read the straits times pull-out - URBAN (every thursday) - this morning. and there was a 2-page spread on men who seek date experts and coaches' professional advice and tutoring on how to snag that hot girl across the room. or just beside you.
it was ridiculously funny, utter rubbish, nonsensical and full of plenty of bullshit.
i can't really recall the name of the dating coach they interviewed or the guy who sought his help, but let's call them Dr. Wise Guy and Mr. Helpless. haha!
so Dr. Wise Guy did his thing with Mr. Helpless and coached him about reading women's body language, how and when to approach her, what to say and ask her, so that she'll give Mr. Helpless her number. then they headed to a bar and put Dr. Wise Guy's teachings to practice.
victim: a "bodylicious" vodka waitress.
Dr. Wise Guy first went to the BAR MANAGER to ask more about her. but the photographer (for the article) beat him (Dr. Wise Guy) to it, and scored! he got the waitress' phone number just by making casual chit-chat with her. -_-
later on, Dr. Wise Guy and Mr. Helpless did eventually get around to convincing her to give her number, but it was due to accumulating a tab for vodka shots, rather than putting his "suave" moves to the test.
BIG MORAL OF THE STORY?
i can tell you frankly, as a girl. maybe i can't speak for ALL girls. but, generally:
the BEST way to ever get a girl to even START feeling comfortable with you, say at a bar, club, restaurant, convention and the like, is to approach her with a mindset that's not in "dating gear". have self-confidence, yes. but not to expect that she will go out on date with you instantly. she just met you for God's sake! approach her as a friend, like you want to get to know her, be REALLY interested in HER - not her boobs, legs, lips, figure or the faint hope that she'll even sleep with you (just because you haven't had some in a LONG time).
i read on to see the rates at which these "professional date coaches" charge. OH MY LORD!
daylight robbery! extortionists!
don't we humans with (supposed) compassion and love, know how to even talk to a member of the opposite sex? are we getting that socially retarded?
it's scary to think that we need a middle man to do our romancing on our behalf. or to at least, teach us one of the most basic instincts of human nature.
animals know how to woo without any help!
no wonder guys are becoming less romantic, girls are wearing the pants in the relationship and most of the hottest chicks end up with lesser than average-looking guys.
(why, you ask? because they are the ones who are the most honest and down-to-earth when talking to a girl! they're not half of a pair of siamese twins with their dumbstick!)
there, i said it.
and since i'm on a roll (bear with me), what the fuck is up with using "GORGEOUS MODELS" for Deal Or No Deal? eye candy for guys, but does it have any relevance to the quarter of a million bucks hiding in the briefcases? absolutely NOT!
how about ladies who go on the show? why not put GORGEOUS MALE MODELS up there, huh? of course that won't happen, because only women are seen as "appropriate" spectatorship gaze. it seems.
how degrading, how how HOW... SEXIST! FUCKING SEXIST! and i can't believe they made a trailer just focusing on what some of the male contestants say about the models! "they're beautiful", "yes, very pretty"... SHUT THE FUCK UP!
you got chosen so you can play the game, not fucking drool all over your perverted self on national television! and to think they put it on bloody prime time, when KIDS are possibly watching! family game show, my ass!
*i may get slammed for this post. but truthfully, it IS the truth. why are we women subjected to such positions in society? haven't we moved out of that stereotype that we are merely objects of desire, baby-popping machines and a man's personal whore who cooks, cleans and washes for him??!!
on a much, MUCH lighter note, i can't wait till the big 5. :)
