the rat can cook

ra-ta-too-ee. ratatouille.

when the posters for this movie first started popping up, i thought it was just another animated production, which would be some really children-friendly, parental-approved, all-wholesome G-rated shit.

and even after the trailer came out, i thought, "okay, i'll watch it, if someone paid for me, and if i'm going with somebody who's really dying to watch it/who's fun to watch a movie with".

turns out, i did get dragged into watching it. not by choice, but because, incidentally that day, we (the boy and i) got the timing screwed up for 'dead silence'. and ended up going with the rat.

thank God it was the best animated movie i've seen since 'finding nemo'.

the script is family-friendly, but it has adult essences within its context, which i think, makes it appealing to all ages. the food critic plays out a condescending superior that we adults love to hate (e.g. authority, government, our parents!). and the adorable rat... gosh.

it makes anyone start to believe they can do anything, if they really wanted to. cheesy (no pun intended!), but it works to the benefit of the character. the setting, which is in paris, of course, sets the tone and mood of the movie, so it instantly transports you to a place where you can leave all your worries behind. like on a mini holiday! yay!

it's got humour, wit, charisma, and i'm not talking about the rat! the movie has even gotten a 5 out of 5 stars rating from the life! section of the straits times. that's a first! i cried quite a few times because you just feel so much love and compassion for a mere tiny creature.

now when i see mice, i'll look at them differently. although i know it wasn't a MOUSE per se in the movie, i'm not about to say viva la RATS! yucky people, rats are. haha!

but i'll say this, 5 out of 5. :D
