The signal is subtle
We pass just close enough to touch
No questions, no answers
We know by now to say enough
With only simple words
With only subtle turns
The things we feel alone for one another
There is a secret that we keep
I won't sleep if you won't sleep
Because tonight may be the last chance we'll be given
We are compelled to do what we must do
We are compelled to do what we have been forbidden
So I won't sleep if you won't sleep tonight

when your heartbeat pounds in your ears
bumped into the ex at suntec today, and all senses came to a halt. for that split second, no one existed. not even the hand i was holding firmly in mine.
our eyes met, and he gazed straight at me. for a moment, he seemed just as shocked. but that grim expression melted into a gentle smile that made all our memories flood back into mind at once. i smiled back and i suddenly remembered to breathe.
"baby, are you okay?"
i just nodded, but i knew if i didn't regain my composure soon, tears would break through the stiffness in my stance. they weren't tears of sadness nor pain, or even regret.
they were tears of everything we once were. and seeing him hand in hand with another didn't evoke any sense of jealousy (though it did spur curiousity, i'll give you that much). in fact, i felt at ease knowing he was trying to find happiness with someone else. i'm honestly glad he's happy. that is how much i love him enough to know we never were meant for one another after all.
in spite of how everything crumbled into dust, it had to. for it brought me here, to a much happier place.
with you, baby. :)
