The signal is subtle
We pass just close enough to touch
No questions, no answers
We know by now to say enough
With only simple words
With only subtle turns
The things we feel alone for one another
There is a secret that we keep
I won't sleep if you won't sleep
Because tonight may be the last chance we'll be given
We are compelled to do what we must do
We are compelled to do what we have been forbidden
So I won't sleep if you won't sleep tonight

wow, that's fast
because it's been AGES since i posted an entry two days in a row. and because it's that time of the year for us muslims; yes, ramadhan. the holy fasting month.
now, i'm not hating, but somehow even the unpious of the lot suddenly become all too saintly (i use that term very loosely) during this particular time of the year. to the point that it's downright pretentious.
i'm 25 this year and till now, i've never been able to feel the spirituality that the month should bring to every muslim person's doorstep. it's probably the people i surround myself with. hmm.
family included, because i know for a fact, that it's always this particular month that i just get preached to, every other day, about being the perfect muslim woman. and honestly, already being in my mid-twenties, if i wanted to be wholly devoted to my religion, i would've chosen to, willingly on my own already. i really don't think nagging and preaching is going to change my faith in it.
i'm not saying i'm denouncing my religion, no! i'm just saying, i've not reached that point in my life where i can safely say, i'm ready to embrace it with all my heart and soul. i will observe necessary protocols and practices that i'm confident and comfortable with, and where it's needed to show respect. that's it.
but after a good 18 years of fasting, don't tell me what i already know, what i've already been observing for the past 18 times of ramadhan and give me hell about how God will punish me one day for my sins.
because i know that, i'm aware of that. but i highly doubt God will love me less for putting in the effort, for practising and observing the fasting month by my own free will and acknowledging him through prayer. so i'm not a perfect islamic woman.
so just back the FUCK OFF.
